Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) play a vital role in reconnecting out-of-work and out-of-school young adults to opportunities for self-sufficiency. JobsFirstNYC supports CBOs through a variety of advocacy, professional development, and organization building efforts.
Convening stakeholders and brokering relationships represents one of JobsFirstNYC's institutional core competencies. Our quarterly "Community-Based Organization (CBO) Network" meetings typically attract more than 100 practitioners from dozens of organziations who come together to consider:
- Emerging and best practices from across the United States
- Industry trends and relevant/current research impacting both practice and policy
- Changes in public funding streams and policy at the federal, state, and local levels
- Perspectives on young adult employment issues from public and private funders
These meetings have also proven to be fertile grounds for innovation and partnership-building. The Bronx Opportunity Network and the Lower East Side Employment Network – two substantial workforce partnerships that JobsFirstNYC currently funds – were both conceived in CBO Network meetings.
